Fan comes on when I used defrost

My fan comes on when I use defrost, but only stays on for about 30 sec, then goes off, then comes back on. Comments?

When you use the defrost setting your a/c compressor runs, even in cold weather, when the a/c compressor runs the condenser fan runs as well. The compressor and fan "cycle" on and off together. The theory is the cold air created by the a/c unit is very dry, this air is then warmed as it goes through the heater core. Warm dry air will take the moisture off of the windshield in short order. Thanks for the info. My jeeps fan does not cyclr like my wifes does, I figured there was something wrong with it
