Ok, in the process of making my XJ a lot more stout and I've already installed frame stiffeners and the 2x6 rockers, my question is as follows; due to the way my sliders are welded in, they are basically pinched & welded between two pieces of angle iron, do I need to run tube from the sliders to the frame? Personally, I feel like that it is unnecessary as the sliders are unbelievably solid. Thoughts? Opinions? Here is a link to my build so you can see how I've put the angle in and secured the 2x6 to said angle.

Any opinions or input will be heavily weighed & thought out. Like I previously stated, I do not think that they will be needed. I also can see how they could get hung on stuff, which wouldn't be cool. As of now I have it in my mind to not do it but I can be persuaded if a proper case presented. Thanks guys.

I realize you welded them in, but you still need to secure an arm off of them to the frame. It is a mechanical advantage thing to keep the edge being hit hard enough to rotate the 2X6. Anchoring to the frame will prevent that

Sounds good. Thanks for the reply. Won't cost me any extra, might as well go ahead & weld them in.

I tied my sliders to the frame as well. Never moved since then.

I totally agree with tying them into the frame. In all my research and thinking on it, yes the tubing is welded across a long plane and sturdy, but it is still mounted to thin sheet metal. I do have plans to do the same modification as my rockers aren't even swish cheese in spots, just chunks gone, but i haven't decided on three or four braces. I guess it depends on the size of each brace and placement but that's all for a later thread (i will surely need advice on mine).

For getting hung up i've tossed around the idea of 6061-t6 aluminum plates bolted up to the braces with countersunk screws.

I will be doing this come spring time also. On the note of bracing to the frame has anyone done anything with a boatside from the back of said 2x6 tube to the frame rail while using those braces to attach the plating?

I finished welding in my passenger side slider then put braces from the slider to the frame on the drivers side, going to passenger side tonight. Used 1.75" tube @ 13.5" long, cut the ends to 45* and welded 1.75"x2.25"x.25" strap to it to close the ends.http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/7703514F-F098-474B-B76C-E3815AA0AE83.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/97413B80-AE4A-4B94-B63C-121FC8CEE30F.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/4D9E346C-C74C-42E0-A553-9C0781A25AC5.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/FFA1AF81-7C15-42B2-942B-38EE8243F67A.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/06145097-6854-407C-9CA8-25C45E22CA77.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/9FC37E18-E47E-407C-900F-CAFB2DFA522B.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/73C24083-C474-402A-9EB9-B752BB75A7D3.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/763F35C9-8A7A-4F85-94D4-09C757B3B9D1.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h106/jruzich43/C48F9E83-303A-430A-8123-E41CBA06EE38.jpg
