just got an unexpected check from the va and ordered some other parts.
already ordered the tail pipe and pieces to fix that...
just ordered the rough country control arm drop kit $189 amazon
and adjustable upper arms from iron mike

I think I'm gonna keep those aluminum wheels and have enough left to get some 30's or 31's
haven't decided yet.

so I'll have a full 4.5" lift and ?? tires.
wish the tire store would mount 2 30's and 2 31's so I could do a set on each side and look at REAL what it'd look like.

gears are 3.07 so even 30's are a bit large for now....

You have to love when unexpected funds come in! Good choice with the arms, those things are bulletproof. If your looking for quality tires on the cheap check out Treadwright tires. http://www.treadwright.com I know they are retreads, but everyone that has ever reviewed them loves them. Also the magazines are always giving them positive reviews. I'm going to be picking up a set of 4 31x10.5r15 as soon as they get em back in stock.(Service rep told me late Jan to mid-Feb)

Enjoy the money and parts!

The 3.07 gearing on 30's wont seem too far off, I would say get the larger tires(31's i think you were looking for). As I always do, check craigslist as often as possible to score deals nearly new tires. 4.5lift and a locker with 31's will likely be more capable than a rig that is open diff on 33's

Down the road, I'm planning on swapping out the axles. And will most likely shoot for 3.5# to 3.7# which would be stock on the V4 xj's to the V6 grands.
So, I'm leaning toward the 31's for now. = mostly planning on highway usage till I do the swap.

I can get a set mounted and balanced for under $150 ea.

hey... after I get the control arm drop brackets and adjustable upper arms installed and finish the front lift ~ (I'll be playing army on the 2nd weekend of Feb) ... if I bring pizza and beer, ya want to help me dial everything in?
:D

we could make a 'how to' thread.... :bacondance:
like second half of Feb

We should be able to make that happen.
Keep me posted as things come in and whatnot, and we'll set a date.

What axles you got? I'll give you my 3.55's when they come. Assuming they are worth giving. Steve stated before that setting up gears that have been used are a bit difficult to setup. But if my mechanic inspects them and give them the clear. I'll send em to ya

I've got stock '89's... 35 non clip rear and 3 piece 30 front with a modded disco = moved the clips to permanently lock that section... with 3.07.
I'm hoping to find the later model front with out the disco and larger UJoints and maybe a Chrysler 8.25 rear.

As long as a new set of master install kits is used for the installation, it SHOULD be ok..... trying to re-use old shims and what not, well....thats when you get into problems.

Thanks for clarifying, Josh.
Dave, I think that's a great way to go. I'm building up my dana 30. And the 8.25 is really cheap to modify. For about a grand. You can have disc brakes, stronger shafts, gears, lunch box locker, even a truss. Well maybe 1200 bux. But still pretty cheap. 3.55 gears should be fine w 30 or 31's.

Hell, I'm still running 3.55's with my 33's....
Oh sure, I wouldn't mind having a deeper gear set, but it does just fine, driving around AND wheeling....

I'd say run 3.55's if you want to save a bit of money for other mods.. Cause at least you can still drive it and enjoy it until you get more money to rehear at a later date..

went with Discount Tire = Falken's Rocky Mountain ATS 30" for $125 ea. mounted and balanced...

4398

4399

I think they'll do for now...
and down the road when I upgrade the gears I'll look at it then.

the experts recommend 3.33 for the stock tire size... and min for a 30" of 3.55 ~ mid range 3.73

granted, my xj is lighter than a lot of 4x4's out there. but I'm still at a 3.07
