96 Cherokee classic. Truck was broken into and the ignition cylinder was ripped out. Need to know if I need any special tools to replace, or if it would have damaged the steering column. I'm at work and won't be able to follow up with any other pictures until this afternoon.

I think the best thing for that would be to cruise by a lock smith and see what he thinks

Not sure on the 96, but earlier models had a rod that went down to the actual switch on the bottom right of the steering column. That can be operated by hand

Boss let me off work early, and borrow the company pick up. I'll check it out

Wow... luckily they didn't get away with the thing! Hard to say if the column was damaged, but hopefully just replacing the cylinder will fix ya up. Locksmith may have to re-key the new one to match your key though

Column doesn't seem to be damaged, but I have the new parts on and when I turn the key nothing happens. Accessory lights don't come on, but the little ring around the key lights up

Turns out that when they smashed the ignition switch, they popped the 60A fuse under the hood

So, have you started it yet?

Yeah, they weren't able to steal it because they popped the fuse. Replaced the switch and cylinder, and then the fuse. Tomorrow the window, and getting an alarm

Thank GOD for fuses...

I think getting The Club might be a good plan too. Possibly Lo-Jack at a one time $600 or so.

Good to hear. That could have been worse

I did some research on how human auditory systems are affected by sound. Most alarms are around 80 - 108dB. At 120dB, our ears hurt. At 180dB the tissue in our ears begin to die. I found a siren at 300dB. Yeah, that will be fun to see someone break into my truck again.
