Thought I would share my little project with you all.
Today I did one the the best and easiest repairs I've done is a while. I re-did my headliner in the XJ.

Here is what I started with.

With very little effort I removed the old stuff.
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss323/jrw7072009/WhiteXJ94/IMG_2856_zps99b6c933.jpg (http://s588.photobucket.com/user/jrw7072009/media/WhiteXJ94/IMG_2856_zps99b6c933.jpg.html)

Used the shop vac and brushed the old nasty stuff off so the glue will stick.

The wife took me to Jo-Anns Fabric store (I wouldn't go by myself) and we looked at several types and colors of gray. I could not decided on a gray so I went with Mossy Oak!!
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss323/jrw7072009/WhiteXJ94/IMG_2859_zpsa904f69e.jpg (http://s588.photobucket.com/user/jrw7072009/media/WhiteXJ94/IMG_2859_zpsa904f69e.jpg.html)

I used a whole can of 3m adhesive. This is a shot of the back side, I just wrapped the extra material.

Here is a shot of the finished product installed!

Pics don't do it justice, it looks awesome in person! My wife even likes it and she is not a big fan of camo.

I don't blame you about making your wife go with you to the fabric store. I would have made mine go even if she had never been before! :spongebob:

It paid off for me, she used a 60% off coupon that I would have never even known about. I got 2 1/2 yards of $12.99 per yard material for $14.00 total! :bacondance:

Oh God! Don't tempt me!! I'm already a regular at Joann's and I've DIY'd by sun visors with funky duct tape and my cargo cover with pretty felt. ;-) hmmmmm.... So three yards did it huh?

Was it regular weight cotton or was it heavier weight outdoor fabric?

Looks good! How long did it take? I've got to replace my headliner too.

I don't think it was outdoor stuff... but I'm not sure, I'll ask my wife. It was in a whole section by its self with other colors or types of camo. We just needed one that was wide enough because a lot of the fabric is around 45" the XJ headliner is around 48" wide and the camo I used was 60" x 7 1/2' or 2 1/2 yards long.

It really did not take me long, it took longer to drive to the store and pick out the fabric then to do the whole job. Cordless drill made quick work of it.

I got mine from JoAnn's, I used the foam backed one. and my wife and daughter went with me. I think to was to make sure I didn't come home with some spongebob fabric.

I was trying to joke around about getting Sponge Bob or Hello Kitty and my daughter was like ummm how about we get Ninja Turtles....

I almost went with it but it was thick blanket fabric. lol

Did my headliner a couple months ago. While I was driving around with no headliner I realized my roof would get so hot you couldn't touch it. I sprayed the interior roof with bedliner/rock guard. My dad used it on the floor of his truck and it helped significantly with heat and noise. Has helped with heat, it doesn't sound like a tin can when it rains anymore, and I may be crazy but I think it has helped with wind noise as well.
