Just bought my XJ. No sag completely stock.
I want to put some new tires and rims on it. I really want to go with the 30x9.50 Grabbers ATZ on 15x8 wheels. I'm not sure at this point if I want to go more than 2 inch lift because of having to drop transfer case and any other strain that the lift may cause. I'm rambling I know.... Can I get by with this set up until I install the 2 inch lift? I've heard yes and no.. Please gie it too me straight!

I started with a 4.5" RC lift on my 1998 XJ. I did that because of the SYE issue. Since then I have installed a SYE and moved up to 6.5" lift. The RC 4.5" lift kit comes with a 1" transfer drop kit.

I don't think you'll have a problem with vibrations if you go to a 3, or 4.5" lift.

I also have a 1999 XJ that my daughters drive. I recently installed a 3" lift, no drop, and no SYE. 30" tires (which were on before the lift) Drive's great.

For a couple of years, no issues. If I am remembering correctly they are 30x10.5x15's BFG ATs

oh, also...what does SYE mean and what problem? When you mention vibration problem, are you referring to when I lift it or at stock height. I need some schooling. Thanks

Sorry, SYE = Slip Yoke Eliminator. In Jeep's wisdom, or lack of it, they designed the rear drive shaft to slip forward and backward in the back of the transfer case. The distance changes between the transfer case and the rear axle yoke as the rear suspension cycles up and down, more so off road.

When you suspension lift the Cherokee it changes the angle between the pinion and the transfer case. This can cause drive line vibrations. The 1" transfer case drop tries to get the angle back with in the acceptable range.

If you replace the factory slip yoke design with one that is like how the front drive shaft attaches then the angles between the transfer case and the rear axle pinion are less of a problem. The slip is moved to the center of the drive shaft, just like it is on the front drive shaft.

With the SYE installed you can remove the transfer case drop.

1999 XJ, 3" lift, 30" tires, no vibration issues. The RC 3" lift doesn't come with a transfer case drop. If for some strange reason you do get vibrations, then you can install a 1" drop, change the shims on the leaf pack etc... I doubt you'd have any issue though.

Ok, I have one other purchase I was getting with my new wheel set up. I think for now until I do anything, it might need shocks. Do you have any suggestions that I can get now and if and when I go up 2 more inches I won't have to buy more shocks. I was looking at the Rancho RS5000. What do you or anyone else thinks about these? They spec for 0-2 inch lift. Just don't know the quality

I went with a 2 inch lift just for the simplicity. I didn't have to drop the Tcase or mess with the track bar or anything else. I don't have any drive line vibrations. I put some 31x 10.5 tires on it. I think 30's would be better. But I don't wheel it much.

Thanks that's pretty much what I want. Do you by chance have some decent photos of the front and sides with the 31' s and 30's on it to give me an idea? What back spacing as well? I'm thinking maybe 4.0 but not sure if that's a good blend. I don't want them to stick like 3 or 4 inches out. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I too have a 3" lift with no transfer case drop or sye and I don't have vibes. I'm still on 29" tires for now, but I don't think 30" would cause much of a problem at stock height. I'm about to put on a 4.5" lift and get some 33" tires abd I may have to do some trimming.

The 97+ seem to be more sensitive to vibrations after a lift.
