I was wondering if anyone has added a exhaust snorkel on their XJ.

Not the XJ, but we have a couple of military rigs with provision for snorkels. They have a three bolt flange on the end of the pipe so you can remove them if you want. That might be a good thing if you don't need it every day

unless you're hauling ass through some very deep water in reverse, I don't see the need for one. nose will dip when you start floating

Here's what happened. Crossing a pond and hit a tree laying under the water. Jeep sinks to the bottom, engine dies, water up the exhaust. Pulled the jeep out dead did not try to start it, put it on the trailer took it home. drained the oil, pulled the plugs, sprayed wd-40 in the cylinders, left the drain plug and spark plugs out for two days. New oil, new plugs lasted about two weeks. Put a crate engine in it. Don't want to spend 2500.00 on a new motor again anytime soon.

I see what you mean. As long as the engine is running, you won't have a problem with the exhaust. The worst that usually happens is the O2 sensor gets fouled. The more important thing is a good snorkel on the intake side and seal the distributor and use dielectric grease on the plug wires and all the wiring harness connections

Did you go through the old engine to see what went wrong with it? Just curious as to what broke because from what I've read it sounds like you took all the proper precautions and then some.

Smoked the rod and main bearings. I guess I didn't get all the mud out.
