OK next Saturday is opening day of bow season for Virginia. Who else is excited about hunting season finally being here.

This will be my first bow season. Back in March I got a Parker hornet extreme crossbow. So I hope to bag my first bow kill.

Where I hunt I'm the only person allowed too. I also hurt out the top of a pole barn so rain or shine I'm in the shed

Are there really that many wackos out there hunting? Here in Cali hunting is pretty much only done on private land. But all the homies get open season year round with no tags.

My aunt has 300+ acres on a lake with no one aloud to hunt it. Two years ago I busted a guy on a four wheeler shooting at a doe. Long story short he needed four new tires and probably rims before he got back home.

Hunting around isn't to bad. National Forest is where most of the wackos go.

The only place that is public I hunt is Smith mountain. Every where else I have sole hunting rights to.

I had a Matthews compound for less than two hours before I traded it for a gun. That's going the next purchase is a compound. I like the parkers I've seen.

I could post up a picture of my custom recurve and say that THAT is a bow, but then someone would probably post up a picture of a longbow that their Neanderthal cousin made up for them and I'd look dumb.

That being said, I haven't shot it in years. I did just get back from a week long ruffed grouse hunting trip up in the Michigan U.P. Birds were supposed to be down in number this year, but my father and I flushed 30 some odd birds with no dog which was a little bit more than previous years. Lot of wild flushes and lots of leaves, so the few shots we got were tough ones. I went 2 for 4 and he went 1 for 3. Kind of brought me back down to reality, I had a few year stretch where I did not miss a bird and was feeling like a master of the shotgun.

I didn't realize how lucky I was when I was a kid. Just across the street and behind the neighbors houses was 5 to 10 acres of a mixture of pasture and heavy woods. Anytime I wanted to go hunting (pellet gun) I just walked over there. Great place to go camping too, as long as you were afraid of a cow stepping on you. lol

I didn't either. we lived out of town a few miles and I always HATED it. Now we're debating selling the house and/or finding a couple acres to roam around on. Would be nice to have the old CJ7 back as well.

I would love to get a crossbow, told my hubby that thats what I want for my xmas present (doubtful tho), he has a hunting bow, not sure what kind, it was given to him by his uncle awhile ago....

...he hasnt really used it other than target practice lol

Growing up we had 13 acres of woods that was verry hilly. It had a creek running through it and frequent deer and turkey there. Has anyone tried shooting a turkey with a bow?

Never hunted turkeys, but I used to shoot 3D tournaments when I was a teenager. The turkeys always messed up my score.

I tried it when I lived in Georgia and bagged a nice Tom, but it was using a compound not my crossbow.

Alien you may be happy that bear did not come after you. I have eaten bear meat and it is NOT very tasty.

They are smelly too. Best part of the bear is the grease for your boots

For the past 8 years I have been trying to get one. That was the first I've had to walk out in front of me. Bear meat is good if cooked right. I wish he would of ran to me instead of away I chased him till he left the property I was hunting trying to get a shot with my bow.

They are real good waterproofing.

You will never catch one by chasing it. They can hit 40 mph in heavy brush. Besides, you don't want one turning on you

I was trying to get him to stop. If he had turn to me I had to the bow ready to go down his throat and a knife to finish off while he chewed my arm.

I didn't say I wouldn't be crying.

I have want to get a bear since I started hunting. There's a guy retired out my union hall named bear hunter. I've seen pictures of him in a tree above a bear beating it with his shirt. He was a nut.

Do it do it! I'd give a testicle to get the hell out of this concrete jungle. A hope more ppl do a few acre homesteads. Heal the land. Grow good food. Life is safer. Kids can actually play.

I want a compound bow :) I have one at my dads up in delta but we don't speak. Need new one! I wanna bag some wild turkeys it would probably be easier then trying to shoot a duck. They are tasty. A whole turkey would probably last me like a month :) I don't really have any where to hang a deer but we have this magical thing in Canada called crown land and that's where we wheel all summer season is closed and now the trails are for hunters and the ski doos. But as long as u have a hunting or fishing licence you can still take your 4x4 out.

Bucks 1 and 2 came off the same property in east texas and obviously of the same gene pool. So many similarities in their racks, except that buck 2 is at least 2 years older. Buck 3 was from my buddy Jeff in Illinois.

This bruiser was shot 2 years ago on property than I no longer hunt. Was a terribly boring piece of land, but the genetics were amazing. Still pissed about the way it all went down. Higher lease prices, long term leases, blah blah blah.

Got this ole boy on camera. Him and 2 other bucks are coming by and I found a couple of active scrapes closeby. This property isn't MLD managed so my opportunity to bag a doe ended this weekend. Not too many of them out there anyway, I'll just have to hunt these guys hard. Anybody else get out there this wknd?
