Yeah, never know what you're gonna find. Opened up the recently plucked ZJ Dana 35 just in case a locker or aftermarket gearing hid inside. I can dream! :bacondance: So, i pulled the 7 out of 10 bolts with only 2 of those tight. Then pried the cover and the clear silicone that was used for sealing it, and saw not what i expected. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

No fluid, rags stuffed in there, and to my limited knowledge great looking gears but open carrier. :(

Another thing i noticed was a date stamped in the side of the ring gear, 4-23-01. Two things, one is thats my b-day (small coincidence ;) ) and two is we pulled this axle from a '97 ZJ. My guess is its had the gears replaced in the past?

Petroleum soak up pad.. nice.. Yeah I'd say look and see what ratio it is, might not be a complete useless find.. although in the last pic, it looks like it has some pretty worn teeth on it.. which is why I'm assuming they ditched the ZJ in the first place.. Glad to see that the rag isnt' wrapped around the diff, so I would hope maybe it was driven that way with no fluid in it...

Hey! You found my lunch box locker. If you come across my ham sandwich can you send it back?

I got it for the brake parts, so its just a bonus if i find anything extra. This is just for fun/experience. It does puzzle me why they would drain it, stuff a rag in there, and seal it back up.

will around here they drain and clean it so you can check the gears and case and use cheap sealent to keep out water and dirt. the rag (?) unless they left it in thinking it would help keep water and dirt out ?

Just remembered i could look at the stamping on the ring gear and i had taken a pic of it. Shows 39-11, which works out to 3.55.

4-23-01 is your birthday, damn, I thought you would have been older than 12. I guess you are precocious.
