Hi,

Weird question, I know :)
I bought a new fan clutch to my XJ.
The store sent me OMIX-ADA Part # 1710503 instead of:
OMIX-ADA Part # 1710510

according to the catalog, 1710503 fits 87 to 99 XJs and the 1710510 fits 2001.
Can someone tell me what is the difference between those two?
(sending it back to the store is a little complicated due to the taxes and shipping cost)

Thank you,
Saar.

They both have basically the same overall dimensions, and weight.
Without an actual CAD Dimensioned print, I cant tell by looking at the two that there are any differences in the mounting.
There is a difference in the description of the two as the 1710503 is labeled as "reverse" and has straight fins on the one side,

...Whereas the 1710510 does not have this label and it's fins have a curvature to them.

It might come down to the direction in which the fan spins?
(strictly going off of the "reverse" label in the one)
I'm not sure if the serp belt configuration is the same on both engines.
Looking into that now.

A little caution for you ...

Recently, USMW brand, Omix Ada/RuggedRidge 17105.03 rebranded, fanclutch part boxes - have been found to contain the wrong fanclutch .... i.e. The severe duty, Grand Cherokee one apparently - which has a bunch of big fins facing the radiator. ...

Fella down here got one from rockauto ... then went to buy the same, from a local supplier who checked the contents and said his whole 17105.03 shipment was incorrectly packaged.

Got any front and rear pics of what you removed ... and what you received .. ??

Your old one looks identical to the, old, factory original, AC Delco ones, Ive replaced on my XJs.

Your new one looks the same as the one I got in an USMW brand box, with Omix Ada/Rugged Ridge 17105.03 stickers on it - a coupla years ago.

Mine has the curved rear fins .... but only has 3 lugs on the front tho ???

That new one you received, will make the fanblades sit closer to the engine, going by your, side on piccy ... so if you use it, make sure the fanblades wont contact anything.

I cant remember if mine had the same fanblade mounting variation - compared to the original AC-Delco fanclutch.

Some of this I think may be due to different companies manufacturing the same part. As long as the fan blade fits, I think you will be OK. But as Carves said, it looks like the fan blade will be a little closer to the engine so check for clearance. The thing to look for in efficiency is that no more than half of the fan blade is back behind the fan shroud.

Hi,

I installed the part, seems to be working fine...
I'll know better in 2 weeks when I'll be at the desert :)
