The engine in my XJ is seized. I have a line on a couple of 4.0L engines locally out of 97 grand cherokees. Does anybody know if they will swap into my 2000 Cherokee sport with minimal problems?

Yes it will work fine. You just have to swap everything over, such as coil packs, front accessories, and intake

Thanks! Now if I can find the time and confidence to make the swap.

Thanks, I often wondered the same thing. I seem to come across more grands then XJ's

Wouldn't the computer be an issue with a grand? It tells the dashboard everything and I believe the DB's are different...

The hardware engine and accessories will work just use your current wiring to be compliant with your ECU.

So just use the block?

What year did they drop the rotor and went to coil packs?

This is for my own info as I am just curious and love new info.

I was reading information about the Jeep XJ engine and apparently they stopped using distributors in the early 2000's right before the XJ was discontinued

So if this 97 still has a distributor it will not work in my 2000?

The distributorless ignition came in 2000. It has different wiring and engine computer. So no, it wouldn't work unless you do not use that distributor. You would have to transfer all your current ignition and fuel management hardware and wiring to it. But, one more thing you will have to consider is smog testing. It will not pass smog if you use the 97 engine with the 2000 stuff on the outside
