I'm well aware there are cats out there making tube fenders for XJ's. However they are skins over the front fenders and it really doesn't seem very stable (though I could be wrong) if you were to take a impact.
So I'm wondering if anyone has done their own? I noticed how someone had attached the tube to the unibody, but I have not seen a write up or detailed pictures to get an ideal of how to do it myself.

What would be even better is to tie said tube fenders into both the bumper and the rock rails. Then fab a lateral cross bar across the cowling to tie in the two sides.
The same would be doone on the back, tie them into the bumper, and the rock rails.
(not much you can do for lateral support, but it would be easier to tie them into the unibody at this point.)
This would be the best way to go about doing this, and create a psudeo exo, or at least a great start to an exo-cage tying in the set if tube fenders.

I thought about that, but what if you need to take off your front bumper for whatever reason? I'm thinking of mocking up with PVC pipe or something. It's the only thing I can conclude.

I have considered this and am of the opinion that sliders and bumpers should be tied in with bolts so it can be disassembled

I usually had seperate, bolted together, bar, front guard brush rails and sill guards on other 4x4s.

This is a two piece setup using a plug in arrangement with lock bolts ... Tis more typical to use a clamp tho ... as in ARB, etc., catalogue piccies.

Yeah, that Yota looks alot like what the Puerto Ricans would drive around my parts :)
I can see the ideal of the typical tube fenders and the skins that a few indie cats have started producing. But I can't help but think of real life wheeling occurrences. So if I can somehow figure out how to attach the tube to the unibody/frame. I'd be in good shape. I have frame stiffeners so far welded along the long section. I still have to put on the ones for the front portion.
I know FrankZ did his the way I'm thinking of. Maybe I'll pull on his coat tails.......

I'm still diggin on the 2x6" box steel for sliders though. I'm not even there yet (as in, ready to do the mod), so maybe I shouldn't get too ahead of myself. I did however weezle a deal, where I'm going to be refinishing someones deck for a new front bumper.
Skill debating whether or not to get a rear bumper that has a tire carrier or not.

I have never been sorry I put my rear tire carrier on

You can see mine in these pictures.. Those tubes sticking out from the body are welded to the inner fenders, and I used sheet metal to skin them, then cut the stock fenders to go over

I've been thinking about that for a long while too but I wasn't something a little more stock looking.
