Hey guys and gals I want to instal lockers in my xj, I'm wondering should I go with electronic or air lockers? Or at least some pros and cons of each. Thank you in advance!!

If I were going with lockers, I personally would go with an electric locker. Much easier to fix on the trail in my opinion. All it needs is some wire to get it going. With a air locker you have air lines and a compressor to worry about.

You might want to consider "C". OX lockers are cable controlled, which I really like. You have a direct connection from the lever to the locker. The only issues I see are figuring out a good place to mount the lever, not much of a problem if it isn't a daily driver, and then the issue of getting the cable hung up on something and engaging the locker when you don't want it.

I've never heard/read anyone having this issue, just me thinking.

With all that said I decided to go with the air locker, ARB. I like the electric, but I believe that unit (can't remember the name now) requires clutches for it to function. I don't like clutches. ARB is just a hunk of metal. EATON! Yeah that's it. Now I have thought about (just thinking mind you) that if I replace the rear axle in the 03 TJ I might go with an EATON in it. That would be perfect for what little use it might see.

I went with the Yukon Zip lockers front and rear. I got a good deal for the lockers and new ring/ pinion package I ran the air lines through air compressor hose to protect them from any chafing. I also went with the ARB upgraded compressor so I have onboard air for tires and other things.

When you factor in having on board air, the ARBs are more expensive. However, I use that air every time I wheel since I air down for more traction. And I do have a couple of ARBs waiting for me to get some axles done for them

Did you see the ARB vs Zip locker test on youtube? I'm surprised they left the "China" comment in the video.

Just a new front bumper, winch, and kc's. I don't do anything too crazy, right now but I'm gonna try to find some more fun spots.

OX has also re-designed their air actuation system, not sure how long that part has been done, but found the videos last night.

But they did retain the "drive away" manual lock fail-safe feature.

Video from a vendor that sells several brands of lockers..

This was intriguing enough that I will research further.

coolies ya already have a winch,, lockers get ya further but also stuck in um lets say better places .....I run the ox cable in me little 30 , they do come with a air option now .....

THE INTEGRATED AIR SHIFT SYSTEM IS THE MOST RELIABLE SELECTABLE LOCKER SYSTEM ON THE MARKET. THERE IS NO CABLE TO STRETCH, RUST OR BECOME OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. THE AIR IS CONFINED TO THE COVER, NOT THE HOUSING. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE TRADITIONAL LOCKERS REQUIRE FULL DISASSEMBLY TO REPAIR AN AIR LEAK. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH THE AIR SYSTEM WITH THE OX LOCKER. PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW AND READ THE THREAD WE HAVE MADE ON JEEP FORUM.

sounds good eh ,,,

Yes I saw that video and I was a bit surprised about the China comment as well. I also saw Randy's video.

I figured I could save a few bucks and get a better warranty going with Yukon. I'm also not in much fear of breaking to much as I'm only running 32's and really don't do too much hardcore stuff.

Ahhhh! The ARB vs. Yukon Zip is from 2009, the Yukon video is from 2012. Bet they fixed their problems! :patriot:

I personally did a Detroit in the rear of my stock height XJ. I personally favore those. To me it's just simpler. If I only had the 2 options you proposed. I'd do the Eaton E lockers. Which ill probably do for my D30 front since it seems there is no Detroit locker option for a 30 spline shafts.
My reasoning is only bc it's different than the popular ARB. I have no experience with either.

That OX looks promising. I like the paranoid feature! I might be changing my mind someday. Thanks for the post.

With my recent job status change, I can get an OX, the "drive away" lock, and the core essentials of a compressor system for less than an ARB, and NOT drill the housing.

The OX is looking interesting indeed.

Watching this, I am now aware that there is a little "redneck" in anyone that that stomps the skinny pedal when there is mud involved.... :D
