35" tires can be problematic. To run them off road you really need to upgrade several items. Steering is one.

I like the year, and the mileage ain't bad, but I'd have a hard time paying $7k for this rig.

I don't like buying a built rig, as you don't know how it was built or how badly it has been treated. I bought a 1999 XJ with 140k miles, for $2350 about 2 years ago now.

Personally I wouldn't go over 33" tires with C8.25 and Dana 30.

I think it is a good start. Ir has most of the stuff you would do to it. Price probably reflects what he has in it

Looks nice, got some good mods and parts on it. But, at least for this area, $7k is quite a lot. I wouldn't think more than $5k for it. But, something is only as valuable as someone is willing to pay.

good points but it is what im looking for in an xj the big thing that scares me is the mileage idk what you guys usually get out of these engines, and the lift is a custom 6in long arm so im not a hundred precent about that but if its done right like he says should be awesome and as for steering it has an mj steering box so thats a nice upgrade for the 35s

Well I may be learning something new, but a MJ steering box is the same as an XJ steering box. A Durango steering box, and perhaps a higher volume power steering pump would be an upgrade.

Additional bracing so the box won't rip through or just break the heads off the bolts holding the box to the unibody. Also tie rod upgrade, not to mention the unit bearings will wear faster, etc... Much of this will be dependent on how much HARD use it gets. I think road or mild trail use probably wouldn't be an issue.

As far as the mileage, naw, you're looking at 250k to 300k on the 4.0L engines, now with that said it does depend on how it was maintained. 200k to 225k on the AW4 transmission, but again, it depends.

Personally I'd rather see about 120k or less, but I remember when 60k miles and a vehicle was done, so it might be those past feelings coming back to haunt me. :D

I wouldn't worry too much about the miles but as tony said, it all depends on how they were cared for. Just yesterday i saw someone post on Facebook theirs had just turned to 400k. I have seen a few with that many and one with 600k. It may not be typical but its a good sign. :D

If its worth it to you i would just look it over closely and you could even invite someone that knows suspension well since its a custom built system.

Since the suspension is home grown, ask for a parts list

I'd say the first one would be a better deal... but would def talk him down on price.. as far as you trading your truck for it, guess there isnt' much you can do on the price change part.. As said above, I would def ask for a listing of what parts make up the lift... especially parts taht you might need to replace over time, so you will know what to pick up to replace them...
