My XJ has the steering out of a one ton truck (allegedly) and I was wondering what this would do? I can understand one ton axles, but why the steering?

For bigger tires so it can handle the weight.

It also makes it extremely strong, and resistant to damage while on the trail.
Any chance we could see some pics of the steering set up?

Yeah, I'll snap a few in a bit. But making it stronger for the trail makes sense, definitely something I would have done myself in that case.

Under the knuckle, cross-over
All heim joint ends,
Double shear adj. track bar,
...decent set up.
Not sure if its an optical illusion or what, but it looks like that tie rod has a bit of a bend in it.
Keep an eye on those heims too....they will wear out, and start clunkin around.

Spotted that also...was thinking it was an illusion until your post...
