Short arm are generally cheaper, feature for feature. But if you are looking for lots of suspension travel, flex, then a long arm becomes very advantageous at lifts above 4.5"

Everything he said PLUS the long arm will give you a softer ride if you are planning on driving your rig on the roads and highways:D

Long arm kits also take longer to install....but well worth the time and money in my opinion.

My long arm kit was made by T&T Customs .... I couldn't be happier with it:thumbsup:

Don't forget you can use control arm drops to change the riding angle of your short arms to match those of long arms. Would improve drop and flex some but not as much as long arms.

That would depend on how much off road driving you do

With drop brackets, short arms can flex pretty dang good.

Also, one thing to consider, is that Team NAXJA placed in the top three at King of the hammers with a short arm XJ on drop brackets.

For me, as I'm only at 4.5" shorts with drops damn sure do the trick. If I was at 5.5 I prolly would still be on short arms. I would probably move toward adjustable short arms and look to push the axle forward a tad, but thats about it.

When I bought the lift kit for my XJ I decided on a short arm which was fine with me cause my XJ would flex just as well as others that spent the extra and got a long arm. My friend has an XJ with a long arm that I've been in and to be honest it wasnt a smooth ride, I really couldnt tell any difference so in my opinion why spend the extra money on something that does just as well lol

Heres my short arm XJ (on the right) and my friends long arm XJ

(His tire prevented me from going all the way, I couldve kept on flexing lol)

My MJ will get long arms for the softer ride qualities when loaded. It will see some off road time but mainly just for hunting.

Go Short Arms man..... Drop brackets all the way.
Here's a guy in my NAXJA Chapter who did his own drop brackets on him MJ....

I'd say this thing has a bit of flex....

you'll save a pretty penny on drop brackets also!
