How do you know when it's time to change your ball joints on your Dana 30?
What are the possible symptoms? (Note; I'm asking about symptoms, not how to check them.)

When you do change them, what do you replace with? Dana Spicer, Moog, Alloy USA?

Thanks to Matt (former XJ TALK SHOW! guest) at BleepinJeep for the videos.

The easiest way to tell is to lift the front end of the Jeep and then grab the tire at the top and bottom, then try to rock the tire up and down . It shouldn't move. If you have a friend handy you can have them look directly at the ball joint for movement , the shouldn't be any. As for a replacement brand I always use the best I can get Moog is my favorite but TRW is ok too. As for driving /handleing signs, looseness , haveing to correct alot, sometimes a grinding noise if real bad. As a side note, bad bearings can mimick bad ball joints. Hope this helps !!
PS i realize you were asking for symtoms , however generally speaking by the time you have any significant symtoms , serious damage has been done and knuckle replacement is needed as well as other parts.

In my case my symtoms were strange popping noise, funky tire wear and death wobble.
I followed bleeping jeeps instructions to the T. He was spot on.
interesting side note: while surfing how to change the ball joint is how I stumbled across XjTalk.com.

All great information but the best was the last, significant symptoms = damage. I did not know this.
