Which rear axle do you have?

I don't know these axles came out of a forestry service jeep all I know they are low geared and are stout and have held up to being abused by a cop running the truck through the desert as a chase vehicle

Look at the differential cover and compare it with these common XJ diffs

A guy by the name of xjtrailrider on Va offroad motorsports(link in my sig.) put a set of ZJ discs on the rear of his XJ and it has the 8.25. Sort of a bolt on deal. Putting a set on a 35 would be a bolt on deal and a 44 shouldn't be a problem since ZJs came with 44a the center section is alum. but the axle tubes are the same as a 44 and I think 8.25 are the same size. When xjtrailrider did his, he had to hone out the backing plate that holds the parking brake and drill a hole or 2. When I get on my laptop I'll post a link or you can go tothe site and look under his build Old Blue.

93-97 Zj rear disc is what I used on my 94 xj rear with the 8.25 just have to hone the center of the backing plate out a 1/8 inch or till it fits the tube and its bolt on you will need the bolts from the Zj axle tube to bolt on as there longer and replace your wheel studs with xj front studs or Zj studs if your running aluminum wheels. I also upgraded my master cylinder and booster, proportion valve with the 96 xj now it stops on a dime and holds on hills.

A guy here at a local 4x4 shop put a set off of a liberty on an XJ with a 8.25 so i guess that may be another option.
