Today I replaced the starter in my Jeep. Granted it does not have a 4.0L, but this is the second time in my life this has happened. It all started when the engine began to get hard to start. I would have to crank and crank etc. Then the starter started not turning, but the bendix would engage and nothing would happen. Then once it did spin, it would only catch when the key was turned back into the run position. No codes etc. Soooooooooooooo, here is the deal. The starter armature has something wrong with it that feeds a signal back into the electrical system that disables the cam position sensor so that it will not allow the spark plugs to fire and probably not allow the fuel injectors to fire. I had this happen on a Ford years ago, only it only happened when the starter was warm. Replaced the starter and it starts normally. A really weird one to make you scratch your head:out:

Why wouldn't you run a 4.0? Seems like a lot of work to put the Chev motor in.
