Hey guys, im new here and i'm a Tahoe Z71 owner who just sold his ATV for lack of legal riding areas. That being said i'm looking to get a weekend wheeler, and have a small budget and have narrowed it down to 2 different vehicles. First one is a MID 90's Toyo Land Cruiser or the reason i'm here a MID 0'2 Cherokee. The Toyo's ($ 4-5k) are over twice the price of all the Cherokee's ($1,600 - 2,500) i'm finding. I live near Miami Florida and there is a LOT of mud down here and watery trails, I like trail riding and will go through mud if i need to, but i grew out of sinking **** in the mud after my 20's lol. Can you guys shed some light on this for me as i'm new to the non-ATV wheeling world. Can i get some suggestions on inexpensive routes to go on parts like the lunch box type lockers and what not. And the order i should get the parts (Tires and size, lift (type),snorkel, shocks, lockers, and so on. I;m not a rich man so i need to buy smart. I live in the Miami area so there is A LOT of mud and water. What's the difference in LONG arm suspension lift kits and reg kits, besides a **** ton of cash?

Welcome Brandon. The most bang for your buck for a trail rig is 3" lift and 31" tires which will fit on stock rims, lunch box locker in the rear and you will have a very capable rig. If you don't go any higher than that, you won't have to worry about long arm suspension,

There are two sizes of 15 inch 31s. 31X10.50X15 will fit on stock wheels. 12.50X31X15 is a little wide for stock wheels, especially in your mud down there

Yeah I'd def look into some 12.5" wide 31's w/ a low CG lift, and pick yourself up an XJ to build up like you want it!! Much cheaper than the Toy's... But would def not say anything bad about the Toy's either.. especially not with the right parts and setup...

I'd look for the 31-12.50-15... Don't feel bad or anything about asking any questions that pop into your head, now or anytime during your purchase/build-up

Yeah, that is about right. Go to and you will see what is available in the 10.40 size

Then do a search for 31X11.50 and 12.5 and if you haven't had sensor overload, you can see what is available in the size range

Might i suggest the 10.50 wide due to the lack of availability of a 31x12.50 in case you need another. 31x10.50 is just about the most common tires on smaller offroaders so you'll be able to find them everywhere. Also they're cheaper and easier on the bearings.

Just to throw in my two cents about the tires. I'm on a 3" lift and I'm getting ready to get tires as well, I'll be going with 32s but I also have no problem trimming the fenders for clearance. BFG KM2 Mud Terrains seem to do really well in mud. I'm looking at either those or a set of the Cooper STTs.

XJTalk is an awesome place to ask questions. I'm new to wheeling as well and I've found the community here to be invaluable in offering constructive advice. Another thing to note, most lift manufacturers will list a recommended tire and wheel size for their kits so you don't have to figure it out for yourself.

So is was told that 33's will fit on stock rims but i will need a 3' lift?

The narrow 10.50s will. But you will need to trim your fenders

4900 is way too much.

225k is nothing.

Pretty thing - to be used as an ATV.

If its all original and unmolested ... I'd buy it @ $4900, garage it ... and only use it for birthdays, weddings and funerals.

X 2 with 89Laredo .... The mileage, whilst on the high side, is probably not an issue - if the motor, mirrors the bodywork condition.

KBB says 4250 in Very good condition, which I still think is way too high.
Your prices must be alot higher there, or Im just used to buying 20+ year old jeeps.
With two wrecks and 225k I would start at ~3k and not pay more than 4.
Make sure you look over the front and rear frame rails and stuff really well for damage.

I guess you didnt run the vin...
Im thinking they were pretty minor and as long as there is no visible damage it wouldnt scare me away from buying it.

If you really want to know you can go to your police station and give them these report numbers and get the reports for cheap/free. (might have to go to Naples for the one from 09 and FSP for the one from 98)
11/16/1998 FL State Agency LEFT REAR IMPACT WITH A PARKED VEHICLE (Case #:530986970)

10/15/2009 NAPLES, FL Police Report ACCIDENT REPORTED (Case #:09-27439)

That is a beautiful looking Jeep! I agree that $4900 is a bit high, but I can't see it in person. I would try to talk him down to at least $4. Sometimes paying a bit more will pay off in the long run because you may not find another in that condition!
