Just picked up a 1990 limited 4x4 with the awesome gull wing windows they suffice but in Floridan heat not so much. So tried recharging the AC.system with r134a and it wont go into the low side valve. Any ideas on what I might need to consider or missing.

Unless it's been converted that is a R12 system and R134a won't work.

Sounds like you already have a charge in the system. Check fuses first. There is a safety switch on the accumulator. Verify voltage to it and get back to us.

I read it as it wouldn't fit. Dunno.

Is it that the fitting won't go on, or the freon won't go in? If its the latter its probably clogged, i have the same problem.

The fitting for r134a will fit and the low side fitting looks fairly newer. I can get.the compressor to kick on by unplugging it and shorting it out. But nothing will go in. think im gonna buy the schrader vavle..kit and give that a shot.

I remember now on my 90 the compressor has a valve on the back of the compressor that has to be opened to let the freon in. It's a small square valve I had to use needle nose vise grips to open.

I just ran into this same problem last week. I assumed it was a clogged accumulator, but I'll check for a valve on the compressor.

I got lucky it was already converted And it was just the valve not letting the r134a. Charged it And been working since thanks for the heads up guys!
