Usually ...... but not always .. ;);)

Dodgy pump brand, or
Belt alignment / tension.

Fanblades, maybe Fanclutch bearing/shaft ... if its hanging off the waterpump.

Here is a kicker... My crankshaft moves in and out of my bottom end... I thought at first, maybe hb was bad but it looks to.e, the rubber is good, but when I went to pull it off, the crankshaft pulled out a bit... Now I am puzzled, and nervous....

It's a 92 Cherokee 4.0... I don't have a "tension" pulley... Just power steering pump slider bracket...

Two things, if your belt is too tight, it will take out the water pump bearings. Are you sure it was your crank, or more likely the vibration damper. The rubber goes bad in them and they can start to give it up

Yeah, I understand that can be a problem, but from the front side, rubber all looks in tact and good... Possibly belt to tight, but it seems like the whole crank is pulling out about a 1/4"... I hope is is the hd...
Also, it seems like the whole crank pulls out... As in, the pulley and the crank together as one...

Don't know what to say. They can move a few thousandths, but not a quarter inch. There is a bearing insert in there that prevents that

If you really have that much play in the Crank Shaft, it's time for a bottom end rebuild. Like Steve says, there can be a few thousandths of play but if you have that much forward/backward movement then something is bad wrong in the under side of that motor.

Belt too tight? Autozone part? I wonder if the harmonic balancer bolt is lose?

All good questions and advice... Guess one way to find out... I'll have to cancel rubicon trip this weekend, and spend some time under it...

I may have told a fish story on the 1/4 inch... It seemed like a lot... But didn't measure it... I will check it...
