Not a jeep but does anyone know how gas can get in to the crank case like full of gas. It's a 21 hp vertical shaft Briggs & Stratton OHV

A intake valve that isn't sealing good along with sitting for a long time with a tank full of gas seems like it could be a cause. Since the fuel is gravity fed.

what about a stuck open float valve

After thing about what you said it is not gravity fed it has a fuel pump

The stuck open float valve in the carb hits the top of my list. How long was it sitting before you noticed? If it has been run frequently then the gas should vaporize off.

I was mowing with it when it stopped running. But I'm thinking the float is stuck
