With severe weather season ramping up in the south central region of the US I wanted to let everyone know about a website that I use often.

website: http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/?rl=rr
mobile app: Amazon.com: Scanner Radio: Appstore for Android@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61r%2BMBE-FbL.@@AMEPARAM@@61r%2BMBE-FbL

The above website has scanner feeds from all over the US and the world. There are many feeds for police/fire/ems which can be handy if you want to keep up with your local town or with a major catastrophe. Rather than relying on the new to report things you can listen to the first responders as they report what they find.

As I first mentioned, severe weather season is upon us and if you are away from home or in your hidey hole and want to keep up to date on the conditions you can use the mobile app on your cell phone to listen to the feed of the local ham radio repeater that the local storm spotters (Skywarn - http://www.xjtalkshow.com/?s=skywarn ) use to report to the National Weather Service.

I use the mobile app at work just to listen to what is going on around town, a lot of which you won't hear on your evening news. I also used the website at home the other night to keep track of a storm that had produced a mile wide tornado in North Texas and was headed straight for a small town where some friends of mine live.
Years ago when my wife and I were huddled in the bathroom due to an incoming tornado, I had the TV turned up loud enough to hear but when he weatherman kept saying "as you can see on your screen the tornado is moving in this direction" it didn't help me much, I wish I would have had something like this then to listen to the spotters.

I think this is a useful/handy app to have and utilize in addition to any weather apps your local news station may have or live streaming broadcast. I prefer to hear the reports from those witnessing it first hand as it happens.

I know I have posted about this before, but I posted a link to the website in chat the other day and Josh NW99XJ enjoyed it I realized he might not have seen me mention it previously and since we have a lot of new members I thought I would post it again with a little more info.

Holy cow. Hope the damage was limited to stuff. That can be replaced. Hope everybody made it.
