I found this little part on the floor in the middle of my spark plug change.
It starts but is having trouble and making some strange almost clicking noises. Engine does turn over and runs but is fluttering. I pulled the two spark plugs that are on that end towards the cabin and they seem fine. I think it's the connection on the rail.. What is this? Let me tell you what it is not. It does not go inside the boot, the boot has a spring like connector inside it. It is not a bolt shaft when you connect the bolts to hold the rail down. Why would I have this fluttering? Any thoughts, anyone.

Hmmm

No engine lights come on and it shakes like a misfire but they are new plugs, installed perfect. Any thoughts? and what is that tube for?

Hey I will just respond to myself.

I took the 6 ngk plugs back and got 6 champion plugs.

I already replace the first three and they work fine.

Is it possible I had bad plugs

Coo, because I have to tell ya, I had no idea what that piece of metal was

I don't know what that metal piece was either. Maybe it fell off something else in my garage. So I just finished installing my new plugs all six work fine. They are all champion RC12ECC..

The NGK did not work for me. My jeep runs great now.

I will attach pic of dirty plugs I removed at 60K miles.

I would like to say that those plugs above were way off the gap required. Some of those plugs .043 .045.052.052.048 and .040 and they are supposed to be gapped at .035.

Does the gap change over time. The jeep runs much smoother.

The electrode wears away over time. I pull my plugs every oil change. Clean them and regap them. Keeps them firing right and makes them last much longer.

You check your plugs every oil change. Are you marriage and have kids maybe a life. , jesus that is a lot of time. Wow, I don't want to do that. I guess that's why the manual says every 60K

Which NGK plugs were you given ??

... and pays to check the gap on new plugs too, before you fit them .. ;)

Everyone has their own way of doing things. If I pull the plugs, I'm putting a new set in.To me, I see it as an good $12.00(6 plugs at 2.00 ea)investment. I change plugs every 5,000 miles. That's just me. If the plugs cost a lot more than $12.00 and someone was charging me to put them in, things would be different.

Yes, have a very busy life! It takes 20 minutes to do. Keeps plugs in good shape. If the gap stays correct, they last longer. Plus it let's me know how engine is running. You can tell a lot, just by the condition of your plugs. This engine is one of the easiest to change plugs on.

Now the wife's expedition gets double platinums and changed at 100k. It is a 3 hour job to change them.
