Jeep hit 220 on the scan gauge the other day and i hit the air and of course its leaking so no a/c and fan didn't come on. got home and threw a can of freon in it and it lasted about 3 days but fan comes on. My question is would i be better off overriding the a/c fan and put it on a switch or move the trans cooler further to the driver side and put a accessory fan in front, more to the center on a switch? 1998 4.0

Mudderoy has a thread on here somewhere on how to bypass the ECM without throwing a CEL

I found that and are considering that for sure. I have a reversed hood scoop and spaced hood. Ive seen dirt bound offroads triple fan set up and thats a chunk, but i can see that a cherokee radiator could use more fan coverage as a primary and a/c fan as secondary. too much rad and not enough fan! I have an extra 14 in fan and a 12 in electric that i never used that is an option

Summit sells a fan thats a four seasons brand for a lil over 100.00 electric 6 blade have to figure out to put it on a switch, run hot or put it on a thermo controller

I run a Taurus fan, there is a thread on here on how to build the shroud. It pulls 4800 CFM, more than the mechanical and efan combined. I also have a 2200 CFM aux fan. It alone will keep it tolerable on a hot day.

where did you put the extra fan at?

Next to the Taurus fan where the regular efan would be

I an wondering if i put a pusher in the center and separate the trans cooler from the rad if that would help

I am not sure that would help. Separating the trans cooler will help as long as you don't put it in front of the radiator. Mine is separated and not near the radiator and has its own fan. But to answer your question, it is a question of air flow. The stock mechanical fan has a rating of about 1800 CFM. The efan 1100 CFM. Nothing is really going to do you any good until you exceed those numbers

I have an explorer cooler, where did you mount the cooler at?

The electric fan should come on with or without the A/C working. The ECM turns it on if the A/C compressor is running OR if the coolant temp reaches 220 (or there abouts).

The bypass for the electric fan just means you'll be able to run it prior to hitting 220.

My tranny cooler is in the hood. The fan sticks up through it and is operated by a thermostat. Venting the hood is also a good thing to help air flow

So would i be better off putting a switch in for the a/c override or look for a high cfm electric fan to put inside the shroud and ditch the Grand hd clutch fan?

I installed a bypass switch using Mudderoy's writeup and it works beautifully. It doesn't come into play much when you're driving at highways speeds, but for stop-and-go, it helps a lot. I think I need to replace my radiator though for the highway speeds. Especially if I'm running my a/c because the condenser gets hot and all that hot air goes into my radiator.

I would suggest putting the bypass switch in first. If this doesn't solve the problem, a new radiator is probably called for.

Will do switch first , Thanks a bunch!
