I found your page because actually I have a big transmission problem, I have replace gears 4 times and change new transmission and problem still is not solve, check engine still lights up on my dashboard.

I was on my way home from work about 50 miles from my house, when I looked out the back window & noticed my XJ was smokin like crazy. The smoke was so thick you couldn't see anything behind me, so I pulled off the road to check it. The smoke was coming from transmission fluid that was hitting the exhaust, near the bell housing.

I didn't lose any forward drive .Now sometimes, when I put it in drive there is a delay of about 10 seconds before I feel it go into gear & other times nothing happens(reverse is even worse).If I try to drive it sometimes it doesn't shift , engine rpms are high and I slowly lose forward drive until its the same as being in neutral. Every time I park my XJ there is a leak

Alfonso, there are a couple of things you need to do. First check the fluid level. It is probably low and that will take care of your physical symptoms except the smoke. Sounds like the front seal or pump gasket is out and will have to be replaced. Next, find out what code is involved with that check engine light.
