The stock bumpstops have a bolt sticking out of them that threads into the metal part. They can usually be installed without removing the coil spring. You might have to jack it up and let the axle drop to do it though so you can get it in there. The rear has two bolts that screw into the frame

the ones i got from quadratec don't have anything sticking out of them, so do i need to put a stud in or what?

Some have studs some just pop in. depends on the year of your jeep. The ones without studs tend to fall out though, so just put some screws through the side of em.

You can use a bolt in them then

The actual bumpstop itself (the rubber part) does not bolt to the jeep...just like the OEM ones, on most XJ's the bumpstops are just pressed into the metal tubes that extend down from the wheel wells. THOSE ARE bolted on....they have one solitary bolt that is threaded up thru the middle.... (and they will most likely be rusted/corroded on pretty good)

In this pic, you can see the dimples in the metal cup that holds the "bumper" (bump stop)

Here you can see the grooves (upper right) in the replacement bump stop that those "dimples" of the retaining cup lock into:

yup.....thats it...if all your doing is replacing the rubber/poly bump piece itself.....thats it.

One thing to add. There was two different sizes on the part you pop up into the bumpstop holder.
