View Full Version : 4 cyl miss fire! Need help

hey guys im lost ushally ask my dad these questions but hes not around anymore, i have 1987 jeep cherokee 4cyl 2.5 last week or so it started smelling gassy, the gass smell is getting worse and is now miss firing pretty good. any ideas on what it could be? I appreciate all suggestions.

Just basically look for wet areas on/around the injectors. If you do have a leak it may only be a bad o-ring. So don't go getting injectors just yet. In case you do have a leaking injector, you will only need to replace that one.

The 2.5L in your 87' is most likely TBI. If so there will only be one injector at the throttle body. I believe it was made by Renix and the Chrysler multi-port injection wasn't used until 91' from the info I have read.

so i got home from work the other day and took a look on the back injector i had a puddle of gas and oil i believe.. it also looks as if the plug in my engine where you fill up the oil has been leaking not much at all but i did add some. should i pull the injector and see if the o ring has gone bad? im driving my dads toyota now to not do more harm to it.
