I was driving home today and I decided to look at my bumpstops because my ride is really harsh whenever I hit bumps...

I dunno if this is correct or not, it seems kinda odd that the bumpstops would only allow like 2" of uptravel...

But then again, I guess they have to be really restrictive in order to prevent rubbing... Anyone?

It is certainly possible with larger bumps. You might check your shocks first though. Jump up and down on the bumper and then jump off. The rig should go up once and settle back down without continuing to bounce up and down afterwards.

My XJ wasn't stock when I got it. My old F150 only had 2" of up travel until the stops hit. I vote for the shocks being bad.

I'm not sure if there's anything wrong actually. The biggest time I notice it is when I hit speed bumps. I avoid them like the plague because it feels like there's no suspension at all when I do hit them. Other than that it's just a very vibrate-y ride but I chalk that up to it being a 17 year old jeep..

You would be surprised at what a good set of shocks would do for that and maybe some new bushings

Which bushings? Assuming you mean just new ones in general? Which ones in specific? Sorry, kinda learning the ropes here.. :p any shocks in specific I should look out for? Completely stock height.

All the bushings in the upper and lower control arms wear out and then transmit vibrations to the rest of the jeep

Not very hard to replace right? Do I need any special tools?

Not to bad if you can get it apart. Sometimes the bolts get rusted and hard to remove. Just do one at a time and use ratchet straps to get everything realigned

Hm, alright.. I'll wait till I can find a new set of shocks. What length/brand should I look out for or is OEM fine?

Try Bilstiens or Monroe sensatracs. If you are unlifted stock application works
