Hi all.
Sold my '69 blazer (in pieces) and bought what I wanted to begin with
An '89 XJ 4.0
... 5 speed manual 4x4 under 200,000 (actual 178,233)
Runs good.
Vacuum leak though - so no DEQ yet. The 'part time 4x4' light is perm lit.
The previous owner put a stump through the grill and replaced the rad. But nothing else.

Anyway, I'll be surfing around looking for answers and thought I should coin the group

I've ordered some parts (noted in another thread) and will start a build thread.
Given that I regularly need to drive to drill (army reserve) 300+ mi. each way and snowy passes in the middle...
So I'm going to work on fuel econ as much as reliability.
...with the ability to go play too!

Nice lookin Jeep there, buddy! I envy your spare tire rack! Gas mileage is something good to work on, but 20-22 is probably the highest one can get out of these. I'm getting around 17 I think if I drive it nicely. Probably closer to 15 though. I'm going to be doing a lot more driving very shortly and I'm going to be getting a good gas mileage car in late summer for work.

I live out by the Nike campus toward Beaverton / Hilllsboro

So I drove to drill and topped the tank off mid way there.
Leaking from string pump... I think. But nothing else.
160 miles later (@ destination) I topped it again to check the mileage. I know the actual miles was 160 (GPS measure) and the gas to go that far was only 5.9 gal.
Thats like 26 / 27 mpg!

I'm going to watch the return trip mpg...
The xj was solo happy ~ she pee'd right there by the gas pump.

OK....
So I topped off in K-Falls after drill.
~after discovering my clutch master pee'd on my fuse panel.... next 2 fixes...
So I did 25.4 mpg heading back as well!
I"be done that drive 30+ times now and know the rough distances. As well 2 Mrs and 20 min over Willamette Pass...
Averaged 65 - 75 mph
24.8 mpg.
That's freaking AWESOME!
But watch. After I start fixing sh...tuff, it'll drop.

I'm going to swap the fuse panel and change out the clutch master next.
Still need to bleed the breaks and eventually get tires with treads still visible

I think it was brown before the sun did it's magic...
I'm going to sand off the rough edges and I have a gal. of OD sand (military grade bed liner type paint). So it'll be brown again.
But that'll be after I unF~ what the precious owner did. There was no thermostat! Couldn't figure out why it was running so cool

In one pic it looks blue in the other you can tell its purple. So I guess the color would be blurple :D

Lol. My GF wanted to get pink windshield wipers for the Jeep I told her " Oh Helllllll No" I would get a pink decal for her side or even a pink seat cover for her seat but no by no means will I ever put pink windshield wipers on it. Shoulda seen us in AutoZone arguin like 2 lil kids :D
