My stock air filter is gonna be in the way, when i add a second battery.

Trying to find a dry/filtered intake air alternative. I have been looking at a filter in the hood cowl void, and also a round filter box on top of the hood maybe.

An idea I have is to use a plumbing "Mission band" adapter, that goes from 3" to 4". I'd clamp the 3" end to the top of the throttle body, leaving the 4" end facing upward.

Then mount the air cleaner to the top of the hood, with a 4" tube pointing downward. This tube would friction seal into the mission band when the hood is closed. This may not work though, if the engine moves too much in it's mounts.

I'd also like to see about other options, that don't involve open elements.

Thanks, I have also thought about that idea, but worried about the battery venting in the passenger compartment. Also have an issue with lack of space in the back already.

I think I'd def. look into doing a filter in the cowl.. will give you that spot for the 2nd battery, and some good cool air feeding into the engine!!

I have been looking around the interwebs, and this cowl idea is starting to look pretty good.

I'm going to take a look inside there today, and see what is available at the big box parts store.

I don't like the filter just laying in there though. I want to at least prop it up off the floor & maybe a splash shield.

Thanks for the link cantab27!

Here is a link I found, that seems like the best way for me to go about this.

I probably won't get to it for a couple of weeks, so if anyone has a better idea please post it.

There is a dry filter available that is inside the tube and uses cowl air. However I cannot remember the brand. It is not much help, but PM Pookapotomus on this forum. He has been investigating it and will be able to give you the invfo

I did see that type of in-line filter somewhere on the webs. It's kind of cone shaped.

I cut out the cowl sheet metal today on the passenger side, exposing the void. Looks pretty easy to accomplish the setup in the link that I posted. I can see that rain water falling into the cowl isn't going to be that big of a problem.

I still may try to prop the open filter up off the floor of the void if I go with an open element there.

Dont know if you get much snow there in S.C. but its been a slight issue with cowl induction if it covers the cowl vents. Don't get snow or have that type of intake so i don't have much info.

We usually only get one or two snows per year, but I did think about that. I almost always clear off the vent anyway knowing it must be clear for the HVAC.
