There is only a small washer like seal for the distributor. If your crankcase is pressurized enough to leak a decent amount out of the distributor hole, you may have other issues. Is your CCV clear? Do you have oil in your airbox? Is the hold down bolt tight?

check that hold down clamp again. But, like paradise said, if you case has too much pressure, it can point to other problems. Oil coming out of your dipstick too?

Could be a valve problem or worn rings. you could pull the valve cover and run the engine to see if some valves aren't opening. maybe an exhaust valve isn't staying open long enough. How many miles are on it?

A compression would tell you more

Ive got the same issue but no leak from drain hole on dist. new gasket replaced 2 days ago, hold down is tight.....do I change the gasket as I know its clean mating surface on block and dist. I got 1/4 turn out of it maybe a little more but it was leaking worse then with no gasket now. 94 4.0

Might be a blow by issue. Consider doing a compression test.

its leaking at idle if that helps. Im in it now. needed a flashlight to check but looks like its coming out above the hold down gasket below the pick up housing

its coming out where the dizzy bowls out for the pick up, I see a little box looking design directly where the shaft meets the pick up hosuing
