Transmission fluid

This is my first post here. I had to replace my clutch on a 96 jeep cherokee classic 4.0L 5 speed, since I already have the gear shifter off can I add transmission fluid through the shifter hole?

Yeah just pull the top fill plug so you don't over fill it

ok thanks does it matter what type of fluid? Everyone tells me something different.

The manual recommends 90W or equivalent for the AX15 or BA10. Auto tranny fluid for the T4 or 5

I think I'm going to change the filter while I'm at it. The fluid in it now looks more black than anything.

Manual shouldn't have a filter
