View Full Version : Rear Oil Pan Brace

On the engine that Matt rebuilt there was a "brace" that went between the two back bolts on either side of the rear main bearing.

We couldn't get that little metal brace back on, possibility because of the after market oil pan that I purchased.

Well I have a drip right from the bottom of the back of the oil pan, and I'm thinking that either the gasket isn't seated correctly, or I need that little metal brace to help make the oil pan tight between those two bolts.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

It's a pretty good leak and I need to get it stopped. I'm considering replacing the oil pan gasket, but I want to make sure that I don't need that metal brace before wasting the time and money.

Not sure on the brace you're talking about but is the oil pans flange straight?

If you fitted the sump when the engine was out ... I'd suspect you need the brace.

If you fitted the sump with the engine in ... I'd suspect the sump gasket got a kink in it ... and then the missing brace.

I had a doozy of a time under this one - getting the pan back on without snagging the gasket on the bell housing or whatever it was catching on.

He is running the nice fel-pro rubber 1 piece seal. I still have the strap if you need it. The problem is the pan stamping will not let you install the strap without modifying the pan or at least benting the stamping

The 91-93 Mopar Parts manual only calls it a Support, with part # J324-3116.

Should be, it's brand new.

The "brace" just add's pressure to that area to insure no leaks.Much like the old chevy valve covers had. I would modify it and put it back on . I would also suggest useing some grey ulta seal along with the gasket .

From Italy? Careful... it may decide to resign its position once it gets a little older
