I have no first hand information, however my old mechanic told me that flushing a transmission can result in a transmission that no longer works.

If the band material is getting thin the only reason they are grabbing may be because of the suspended material in the transmission fluid.

My first AW4 transmission fluid change was at around 80k miles. They drained it, put 50% old in and 50% new in.

I changed the solenoids and filter on mine shortly after getting my XJ, it's pretty easy to drain the tranny and change the filter. I was nervous because this was the first time I ever tore into a tranny but you'll be glad to hear that if you can change the oil on your XJ you can change the filter on your tranny.

I took mine to a regular transmission shop for the first service after purchasing it. I wanted to make sure it was properly serviced and whether it had any problems I should know about. The cost was $110. I believe I got my money's worth.
