Got nothing right now, have new engine to go in (melted the last one) and rebuilding the auto and transfer case. Doing a 3" lift while apart.
Just ordered some parts from Mark at Detours and he sent me this way. Mark said there were some cool Kiwis here "Hi!" . . . he never said anything about cool Aussies though ha ha ha

98-2001 had a couple of early 80's fullsize Broncos and a 78 Power Wagon.
The XJ is my first Jeep, I rate it highly (ex wife had one) scares the bejeezus out of me in 2WD when it rains though.

trans was still running Ok but molten metal on top of #3 piston and no compression was a tell tale sign things were not the same anymore

Am having the trans done before she blows, . . the Dana35c is all I wonder about letting go, but i'll go no bigger than 30" tyres and only go sand/snow/highway for now, no big rockyards

Hey Maurice, welcome to Xjtalk. That Dana 35 shouldn't be a problem on 30s and and no rocks. But if ya just want something more sturdy an 8.25" is an easy and good swap.

I run a D35 non C clip locked in the rocks on 31s. I think the real secret to that is that I don't have that C clip. You can convert to a non C clip by changing wheel bearings.

Thanks Wayne, :rolleye0012: I guess the trans is the weaker driveline link in Kiwi Cherokees, seen a few around here with trans repairs needed
