Sheesh Cantab ... barbie is starting to become a rolling advertisement for toyota reliability ..

wellllllll .... sometimes rolling ... :p

I put a, approx, 12" x 10" x 0.75" stacked plate cooler on my XJ ...

Since fitting it - I have yet to see the sump temp go over 75*c / 170*f. Usually its on about 65*c / 150*f.

I bypassed all the factory, radiator nonsence tho ....

You got a temp gauge ??

Here is what i am running

http://bmracing.com/?wpsc_product_category=hi-tek-automatic-transmission-cooling-system

I have two of them both in the hood. One for trans and one for engine. Also, use synthetic oil when you do it again. A little spendy but it doesn't cook like regular oil. The stuff I use is the high temp stuff, a little more viscosity than regular trans fluid. It is designed for motor homes and such.
