Hello BigJim, I'm a desert rat in the southern California desert, I'm married 30 years now and we both love exploring either by Jeep or hiking/backpacking. I work as a mechanic at an open pit mine 5 miles from my home and my wife closed up a scrapbook/sewing store so I bought a jeep to hit the trails during the off seasons for backpacking. But the more I use the jeep the more I love taking it out.
I'm a mechanic and until now hated working on my own vehicles but for some reason the XJ is fun to tinker with, I have a long list of things needing done and also frivolous things to be done to the jeep. I just hope over the years this frameless toy won't let me down in the middle of nowhere.
I am excited about finding this forum and look forward to learning many things from your experienced members and as I gain knowledge and tricks about these XJ's trying new things and sharing/ posting the results and possibly helping others.
Well that's about it except for the Jeep. I have a black 97 XJ with a 3" Rocky's lift that sags a bit in the back, hoping it holds up til I can workout how to change out from leaf springs to coil and remove the drum brakes and go to disc. It has 33" tires and stock fenders with flares that I am going to trim and install flares if I can decide which flares to buy or make and apply, tho I have never trimmed ffenders before and worry about the mess I may make of it. It must be done as the right front tire hits and bends in the fender behind the tire. Afraid it won't last much longer but will see.
Well that's about it. I know it's a bit lengthy but you did ask my to tell abit about myself didn't you.:) Tom, aka Rayburne.

Ops I forgot, I found this forum looking for flares and somehow was forwarded here thru Napier fender flares site. And I have to say so far I'm happy I was redirected here.

Welcome to the family, Tom. Been bitten by the jeep bug.
