I have been cutting up a large oak tree for a friend. 30" in diameter 30' up the tree. In spite of using wedges, got the saw stuck. So I had to pull it apart. Took a bit of a pull.

There will be a couple of chords in that tree when done

That will be one of the first tests for mine once it's installed, I heat with wood in the winter, and there are several large oaks on the ground at a friend's place, but down an embankment.

Take it from an old logger. Cut those up first. You would be surprised how hard it is to winch logs up hill

What lengths will it handle, you think? I can skid some with my tractor, but access to these is too tight (and to steep), without dropping older hardwoods along a creek.

I am looking at a cheap 12K winch for my K20 farm truck to handle most of these chores, if I can achieve some small success with the Smittybilt.

12K winch will do it, but when yarding logs it is best to use the vehicle if possible. If you get one behind a stump, forget it. You will need to free it up. Size depends on the weight of the log and how steep it is.
