You can pick this awesome resource up through Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/?&tag=jeepcherokxjt-20&camp=216797&creative=394537&linkCode=ur1&adid=1S4T5HX5TYWJ0M5PWSCZ&&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xjtalk.com%2F) for $20, just type in "high performance cherokee" in the search box.

Tony, you could start with a Haynes manual. It should have vacuum hose diagrams in the emissions section. If not there, check the reference section of your local public library. You can copy what is in the Motors Manuals. And of course there is plenty of information floating around in our minds and posted in the Tech section

Yeah the Haynes manual was going to be my other highly recommended book to pick up.. I have made use of it with my XJ, as well as a few other folks XJ's when we have done work on them... like swapping the complete engine in a co-worker's XJ last year.. Funny thing about it, but I actually carry my Haynes manual in the box I have in the rear of my XJ carrying tools, straps and fluids in it... so I always have it in case of a roadside breakdown or something..

Eric Zappe's book high performance cherokee xj is a must have !

Depending on what year your XJ is a haynes/chiltons manual might be good from what I hear they do not give that much info for the 97+ XJs.

A factory service manual (FSM) is worth it look on ebay for one.

Yeah I have one in the back of mine to. Plus one in the house to read up on when it's cold out and don't feel like freezing to go get the other one :D

In my opinion, by far the factory service manual surpasses the others manuals. I have the Haynes, Chilton, and the factory service manual. So far, I've found several mistakes in all but the fsm. It seems as though the Haynes and Chilton are just compressed bits of the fsm, and missing a lot of info. With both books i have for the fsm, its about three times as big as either the Haynes or Chilton.

I highly recommend this book as well... I read it cover to cover before buying my Jeep. Lot's of good advice, but keep in mind most of the authors experience is related to rock crawling. I also use a Haynes manual which has a lot of good basic maintenance info in it. For completeness though, you can't beat a good factory service manual!

So... nobody wants a .pdf copy of FSM I take it. . I guess it would be hard to utilize while working on your jeep. Of course you could print off the pertinent pages.... :rolleye0012:

wow.. just now realizing the extended series of brainfarts I had while discussing and distributing the FSM.

it's a 47 meg file, so emailing it never would've worked. so i've been PM'ing individually the url of where I had it hosted.

obviously, I can share that same link here!
