Right now I have a 4.5 inch lift and I want to add long arms, so would I just have to buy the arms or a whole new lift?

You can get a long arm kit (add on) from Rubicon Express and from Rough Country

TnT also has a long arm kit, like Rubicon Express its pricey. I'm sure the others are great but i just like how they tuck the arms/mounts inside the "framerail" for more clearance.

You will have to change your crossmember to attach the long arms to. And probably cut off the original lower arm bracket. The new crossmember will be part of the kit. Not sure what kit you have now. If you are happy with it, I would suggest using the same brand if they have long arm upgade kit.

Why the change to long arms. Are you changing tire size or do you have clearance issues with what you run now?

How do they connect to the axle? Is it welded ?

should bolt up where the stock arms went.

Those are some strong LA's, you bolt up the cross member unit and use the stock axle mounting brackets for the front end of the arms. You can get them with Johnny joints too. Either set up is bullet proof, like all their other stuff.

I gotta do long arms soon. Anyone have experience on how much more articulation you get with a LA setup vs shorties?

to the bump stops. a LA set up lets you use complete (full) travel with the bonus of better on road behavior.

I meant droop. Surely in addition to better ride they allow the axle to drop further than shorts

Yes, you will be able to change springs with out jacking up the vehicle, just drive one side up a ramp, if you have quick disco's. The limiting factor is usually the shock travel/ spring length with LA's. That's why they make LIMITING STRAPS, so you won't loose a spring during flexing.

thats what I'm talking about. I'll play around with what I've got now for a while as it blows my mind just about everytime we go out how capable these things are with a few inches and decent tires. LAs are on the list! lockers first though....

Yeah I can't wait to put some on the jeep, and then after that I'm going to be debating on changing my leafs for springs in the rear

Chris, there are some questions you will have to consider before doing that. One biggie is this your daily driver and if so, what are you going to do with the exhaust? It gets tricky taking a pipe all the way to the back with a four link rear. That is why Jeep uses a mirror image of the front four link. Just things to consider.

Well what's the pros and cons about making this switch, which is better for off road

Which one is better between coils and leaves?

You mean coils and leaves? That just depends. There are a lot of things that can be said for both. Leaves tend to provide more stability since they generally have a higher spring rate. However coils ride better because leaves have a built in friction device with the leaves rubbing together. Generally speaking, if you are looking at lots of flex, coils will provide that better than leaves since leaves have inherent limits on how much they can flex. However if you have a long enough leaf spring, then they will match the coils for flex and give more stability.

I see, well that helps. Thanks
