Hey Carson,
I'm planning to swap out my 4.0 and trans for a GM LM7 V8 and a GM 4L60 4 speed w/OD auto trans. Goal is more power and torque and better MPG than the 4.0. The LM7is lighter than the 4.0 too. This is a pretty radical change I'm told but am looking forward to the challenge. Take a look a the Novak site for info on this swap and other engine swaps. In the knowledge section on the left, click on engines for this and other engine options. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/gm_generation_III_v8.htm

The most popular swap is the build a stroker from your 4.0 or get one already built. Sure the stroker swap is a good choice too.

I did the same thing with a 4.3L Chevy. It is a radical change. If all you do is the engine, not bad except for the cooling aspect. But plan on venting the hood and getting a good aftermarket radiator with some cooling capacity. The hard part is thing like AC, transmission linkage and stuff like that, and making it clean. Lift is manditory

Steve,
Did you get your 4.3 with all the accessories? Good idea to do so, right? Saves time and money in the long run I think.

Yes I got a complete engine, however I bought a Painless wiring harness for it because the original was not in very good shape. But, you will have to get some custom power steering hoses. To get the AC to work properly, I had to convert over to a Sanden Compressor. Stuff like that. I run dual electric fans I fabbed up.

I would be surprised if anything larger than a small block V8 would fit in there without any body panel modifications.

unless this fella knows what the hell he is doing. That 5.7L is going to cost him/her a copious amount of money in repairs. i can't even believe Chrysler thought it would be a good ideal to put a 8.25" in a SRT8.

Trust me, not enough room. Small block is bad enough
