Hey all,
New to off roading. Just bought my first XJ yesterday, 96 Classic 4 door Auto with 156K. Not pretty, 2 owner, but no rust or damaged body panels which was my main objective. Drove it home from the dealer in PA (60 miles ) without incident. Ran great with no vibrations, smoke, funny noises, etc.

The build is the first thing on my Bucket List. Retiring 12/1/12. Need a project to work on in parallel with a very long Honey-do list. ETC for first off road use is 6/13.

Found this site while researching for gauge cluster swap/mod. Did a Google search and so here I am.

Looking forward to chatting with all about your XJ knowledge and experiences. Most of all, actually running in to you somewhere along the line for some fun! So far so good.

Later,
TUW

Thanks for joining Dave. Congrats on the retirement. If you live in PA, you might want to check on what they will allow for lifts. I know they have inspections there and can be picky

Thanks. Looking forward to retirement after 42 of service, the last 22 of those on the road. Now I have the time to do things I should have done many years ago. I live in NW Jersey. Thanks for reminding me about the state inspections. Will look into it before I begin ordering the lift kit. Plan on an 8" long arm lift with all the goodies. Will not be driving my XJ on the road much. Can do that with my 07 Ram 4X4 and tow the XJ to where all the fun begins.

8" is tricky to get good road manners. But it can be done. That is where I am now.

Steve,
You got me thinking about the NJ inspection criteria for lifted vehicles. Found a great website the lists all the states limitations for lift. I'm good to go with the 8" lift in NJ. After passing first inspection, you get a lifted vehicle certificate and are required get the rig inspected on a yearly basis. The link to the site is attached. Someone has probably posted it in the past but a refresher doesn't hurt and could save one of us a lot of money.
Later.....
