I just did the rear drum brakes on my 1999. This may be the 4th time I have done drums in my life. I replaced the wheel cylinders, drums, shoes, rear brake lines, and all hardware including the parking brake stuff.

Now the problem

As I drive down the road it sounds like something is rubbing inside the drum on the drivers side. I only drove it 2 miles max today and I did notice if I yanked the ebrake @ 30 the noise would go away till I hit the brakes again. Its a constant noise so Im not thinking warped drum.

Is it more like a knocking noise that you hear as you slow down?

No its more of a rubbing/grinding Id compare it more to the noise front brakes make before you change them.

You nave something loose in there. Better remove the drum and see what it is

I will do that tomorrow when the free source of light in the sky comes back. I tried to pull out those pins that hold the springs with the caps on them out and they were tight. All I can think is I may have put that bottom spring on wrong? I should have just upgraded to the Ford 8.8 with disc...

Sometimes that stuff in there doesn't stay together. It has happened to me before.

The problem was that part the cable for the adjuster sits on was not quite an OEM replacement part and wouldnt stay in place. I think next time it would take less time to just put in an axle with disc brakes on it, lol.

That's why I just did the disc swap, my parts broke, blew a brake cylinder a week after I put new shoes on it lol.

I either going to put in the Ford 8.8 or the GC, dont really see many Libertys in junkyards around here. Come to think of it I dont see many Libertys on the streets either...
