This is my first diesel I have owned so is it anything like gas on the maintenance schedule?

3000 oil change, air filter clean/recharge, tire rotation if 4x4 tires

Its been a few years since we've had a diesel but a couple things are

- oil change intervals are typically longer, 5,000 miles and they are EXPENSIVE because they use so much oil.
- drain the excess water out of the water seperator, consult the owners manual for instructions. I believe that's every oil change. Here's a video on how to, although this is for a 2008 6.4 but you get the idea. f 250 water separation drain - YouTube

What fuel additive do you use? Stanadyne was recommended to us.

I have an 08 F250. The manual shows 10k on oil changes for standard use and 5K for heavy use. The diff is 60K.

The only additive I use now is Stable to keep the diesel in it lasting while I am deployed. Is there something else I should be using along with normal fuel?

Yes, a few years ago the "government" decided to mandate "ultra low sulfur diesel" which sucks. The "u.l.s.d." does not give the mileage, power, and lubricity that the previous diesel fuel did. A diesel fuel additive gives that back to your engine, as well as a cleaner, stabilizer, and keeps your fuel lines and injectors lubricated. Right after they switched the fuel endless diesel owners were replacing injectors, so the additive is necessary.

Here's a link to that Stanadyne additive i previously mentioned. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDIQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stanadyne.com%2Fview.php%3Fid %3D45&ei=oGpGUPVPh97wBLWOgYAL&usg=AFQjCNEtD089hhvvzA2Hui0tOGLKFnzakA
