I had the same problem,mine was worse though.I was out of town and it wouldn't start,left me stranded for a day.I tried to remove it just like you did to clean it&it broke!Grrr!!!I had to order one from the stealership.Lost a days pays& my parents had to drive over 4 hours to pick up my kids so they wouldn't miss any school.

I just remembered. My backup lights stopped working and I think I noticed that moving the automatic shifter would cause them to blink.

I killed the engine and "vigorously" worked the transmission shifter back and forth, tried the lights. It worked a little better, so I did it some more. That was maybe 7 years ago, and I haven't had a issue since. :rotfl2:
