The other day I talked to a friend I havnt talked to since he deployed to Iraq (thank you xbox) and we got to talking about cars. He was shocked I owned a 4X4. That got me wondering for a second, why did I buy an XJ Im a sport compact guy. I got an XJ partially because of the friends Jeep (pic enclosed) and I needed a vehicle I could sleep in if I had to. We were working 60hr weeks back then and sometimes I almost fell asleep on the way home.

Wife and I always wanted a Wrangler, went to buy one, saw the XJ with 4 doors, had two small daughters, so I talked her into the XJ. :D

Do you think you would have bought a 4 door JK if they had been invented back then?

Knowing as much about Jeeps as I did back then, which was nothing, YES! It would have been the best of both worlds. Now? No, not with those underpowered engines and thin sheet metal.

I have not had a 4x4 in awhile so I thought a jeep would be cool because thats one of the few 4x4's I have not owned And I could tow it behind the motor home with out needing a dolly. Ran across this one on craigslist and had to have it.

My brother and i have been into them since childhood. Our mom had wrecked her Camaro and we had purchased some land that required a 4wd at times. She had been told of a XJ and looked at it. Even though she liked it it was in fact a 2wd. Not sure how but then she moved on to looking at ZJ's. She found one and when she went to buy it they were closed and we found another close by. It was only a couple years old and good mileage, as well as being 4wd and was a well equipped Laredo. Bought it, put nearly 200K on the ticker and will always love it. From owning that one our love of jeeps only grew.

My brother, being older, got one first. It's a '90 XJ base and found it to be awesome.

He razzes me about copying him but when i was to turn 16 and searching for my first vehicle i had only one model in mind. First XJ i looked at i fell head over heals for. Never regretted it, never left me stranded.

I find the XJ to fit me very well, better than any other vehicle in fact, that i've driven anyways. I plan on owning a few more too, too many ideas in my head for one Jeep.

Lets see, with mine I was looking for a 4x4 DD and weekend warrior and I wanted anything but a cherokee back then(I hated the way they looked and that everyone and their mothers own one), I did want a Jeep tho or a Ford. I was getting impatient looking so I decided to stop being so picky and open my search for other 4x4s and my Cherokee was the first one I saw. I liked that it didnt look like every other Cherokee out there, she had the black running boards and the tire carrier which in my mind made her look different...I was stupid back then lol. When I went to check her out I fell in love, but in all honesty if I didnt talk the guy down as much as I did I probably wouldve walked away...but im glad I didnt.

Now Im looking for number 2 to join the family(preferably a 2 door), and Id never get rid of my Cherokee, theres that weird attachment there lol.

Here are some pics a little while after I got her(I added the rock slides and front bumper, tires and a 3.5" lift)

2012s got those new engines. Supposed to be leaps and bounds better then the old engine.

My first vehicle was a 89 XJ I got from my grandparents. That started the addiction. To date I have owned 21 or 22 XJs. Currently only own one. Also 8 MJs I've owned. One of my uncles that I idolized back then had bought a brand new MJ. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world......and still think MJs are the coolest things in the world. XJs #2!

That's good to hear, I really would like to see the Jeep brand continue.

Sadly it wont be the 4.0 that we all love, would like to see Jeep use something called the diesel engine more. I wish they would just give us the Jeep 2500.

grew up with a jeep in the family. Started looking for a capable affordable deer lease vehicle and ran across our beloved XJs. Bought it in November and haven't stopped thinking about what I'm going to do next.

Hi, my name is Denver and I've been addicted to my Jeep for 8 months. :drinking: :driving:

edit: 10 month.

A modern day diesel lots-o-torque and good HP would really be nice, and I bet it would sell very well.

Bought a YJ, after driving it for a few months I decided I wanted locking doors, ac, and more space. Love my xj, wouldnt trade it for anything.

not too sure with the price of diesel if it's worth the preformance increase

It might, but I am not a fan of diesels for off road performance. Lots of bottom end, yes. But a limited rpm range and more shifting. They don't do all that well in off road races against a gasser

Well I always was a Chevy Guy with big jacked up Chevy trucks and blazers played in the mud alot and after going through parts motors I finally got out of mudbogging and decided to try rock crawling so I bought my first xj off Craigslist http://img.tapatalk.com/45aba32f-6870-bafa.jpgand have been happy since I love my Jeep I can go about anywhere I want and not tear stuff up lol

Much like NickXJ94 I was always a big Chevy guy, big jacked up C10's & K5's.
After leaving Arkansas and moving to Washington, I learned carburetors suck on steep inclines!
I traded my Wife's Mazda for an XJ a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with it, I was amazed the places it would go with no problems where my K5 would struggle.
I like how simple they are to work on, parts are interchangeable and the prices of parts. Kinda like a Chevy, only can go most anywhere!

So fast forward a few years and Jeeps are all I own!

What killed diesel for me was the intro of all the techno crap ...

Once they "needed" ... a battery and computer to run ... I figured I might as well go back to petrol vehicles.

Well, the short version goes.... I, like several of these other guys, was a big Chevy person. Still am. I had bought a 2005 Cavalier strictly for gas mileage to and from work because I started out driving 300 miles a day. I kept that thing for 5 years and it served me very, very well. It finally started having all these little issues (windows stopped working, etc. etc.) then it developed a little rattle in the motor. Turned out to be the timing chain tensioner... but I convinced my wife to let me sell the Cavalier and buy a Cherokee since I knew how amazing and long lasting the 4.0 was. It was pretty much an even trade - I sold the Cavi for 2k and bought the Jeep for 2k. I've had several vehicles that I've loved over the years. Since my old 4x4 Chevy was stolen and I only "really liked' the Cavi, I wanted a vehicle that I LOVED again. I got what I wanted and I plan on getting another at some point!

A guy I worked with while I was in college had a 98 Classic, and I would help him every ounce in a while when he was rebuilding his motor. Then the transmission gave up in my 97 Dodge Ram 1500, and I wanted another 4x4. I had also heard that there are a lot of options with XJ's. Even though so far I have only added a bigger throttle body, CAI, and a bigger exhaust. I have endless possibilities.

I had toyed with the idea of getting either a Dodge Dakota or a Ram 2500( love the smell of diesel)..then my brother got stationed on the West Coast and asked if I wanted the Jeep, the price was right and well..ta da..have it and love it. I honestly would be lost without it. The kids and I have so much fun on the farm with it and if I didn't have it I'm positive I would have gotten stuck in almost half of the places I find myself in these days.
