Question #1.
The place where the oil filter meets up to the block is leaking. The guy at O'reily said it was called the "oil filter adapter" and gave me a rubber o ring. Is this the right part?

Question#2.
I am rattle can spraying the heep. I have self etching primer but will that get thru the clear coat or do I need to sand it down a bit first?

Thanks for the help guys!!!

#1 a pic would be best but most likely yes

#2 at minimum Id go over it with a scotchbrite pad and rattlecan primer it before painting. Have you looked into house paint?

Question 2 I would sand it

I thought it was actually a 3 "O" ring set.

Yes it is. You can buy just the big o ring from just about anywhere. You could just replace that but it's a PiTA project to start with so I would replace all 3 while I'm in there. Dealer will sell you the 3 o ring kit for around 5-7 dollars.

To the OP, look up some write ups about the oil filter adapter o ring fixes. You may need a T60 torx socket and alot of patience!! My 91 mj had a actual bolt.

Mines a T55 and got that little dude welded to a 3/4" nut. Not enough clearance for a rachet.

You are correct sir and here's an article describing how to change them:

I found that using two spanners jammed in a length of pipe ... gave some much needed leverage when trying to undo that crazy torx setup.

With the amount of heaving I had to do to free it up ... I was bending single, midrange quality, spanners.

Make sure the adapter is clean too ... so that the torx tool fits in properly.

You should be able to just sand it all down and paint it. The primer should only be needed on the bare metal areas.

I like this idea. I used a flap wheel to flatten opposite sides of the socket body itself to use a open end wrench.

Nice. My plan is to tape the back of a 3/4 box onto my custom socket. Should make lining everything up a tad easier.
