Ive seen guys with 35's with only 3"s and alot of cutting just depends on how much cutting and bumpstopping you wanna do

To be practical, 33s. Yes larger tires have been done. I have a buddy with 4.5" of lift and 54s, but really there is less and less XJ there all the time

I gotta ask for a pic of that.

No pic, only saw it marked for cutting. However I might get one in a year or so when I get together with him for the Rubicon

31" tires and no cutting on 3" of lift. If you use stock Jeep rims (like Grizzlys) then 1.25" spacers will be required to keep the front tires out of the control arms.

See my album - Creekside 11-11. Those are 31" tires, 3.5" RE lift + 3/4" spacers in the front and extended shackles in the rear for 4.25" of lift.

There was a featured ride in JP Magazine a couple years ago. Yellow XJ running 42's on what amounted to be about 2" of lift
